Japanese Government Scholarship 2026: Teacher Training Program (For Liberian Teachers)

The Government of Japan (MEXT) is now accepting applications for the 2026 Teacher Training Scholarship, open to trained teachers from Liberia. This prestigious scholarship supports international teachers who wish to conduct research on school education at Japanese universities.

About the Scholarship

The Teacher Training Scholarship is designed for experienced teachers seeking advanced academic and professional development in school education research in Japan. Successful applicants will study at Japanese universities while gaining exposure to Japan’s education system and culture.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet all of the following criteria:

Nationality

  • Must be a Liberian citizen

Age

  • Must have been born on or after April 2, 1991

Professional Background

  • Must be a trained teacher currently working in the education sector

Japanese Language

  • Must be willing to learn Japanese

Health

  • Must be in good physical and mental health
  • Only shortlisted applicants will be required to submit a medical certificate (as instructed by the Embassy of Japan in Ghana)

Duration of Study

  • 18 months, including 6 months of Japanese language training

Return Obligation

  • Applicants must commit to returning to Liberia at the end of the scholarship and resume work as a teacher
